ABSTRACT

A common feature of the statistical method is the concept of the null hypothesis, referred to by the symbol H0. It is based on the idea of setting up two mutually incompatible hypotheses, so that only one can be true. The null hypothesis is that there is no interaction between the variables that the level of sport-spectating of the students in the various categories is not affected by gender. After dealing with some general concepts related to the statistical method, the chapter covers a number of statistical tests which are appropriate for different types of data. The higher the level of measurement the greater the range of analysis that can be carried out on the data. The appropriate type of test to be used depends on the format of the data, the level of measurement and the number of variables involved. The coefficients or parameters, a and b, are determined from examination of existing data, using regression analysis.
