ABSTRACT

Participants combine two or three sketches into a final mockup after casting their votes in the final round of a design studio. The process of merging sketches together is known as mashing up. It differs from other sketching activities in two significant ways: mashing up is a group sketching activity rather than an individual process; the final mockup is sketched on a whiteboard. All participants should talk about the design elements openly, while one person sketches the final mockup on the whiteboard. Since the final mockup is constantly tweaked during the mash up, a whiteboard rather than paper is the best surface on which to produce this group sketch. The participants were given a task to create a widget for the World Usability Day home page. The mash up is given to a designer to create a high-fidelity mockup. People are most successful with mashing up two or more ideas when they follow tips and tricks for mashing up.
