ABSTRACT

This chapter focuses on the statistical analysis, more specifically, the testing of the hypotheses supporting the analytical framework. First, the sampling strategy is introduced and the process of putting the dataset together is presented. Second the discussion of data operationalization and data sources follows suit. Third, the statistical method together with its pros and cons is addressed. Fourth and finally, the results are critically discussed with respect to the proposed analytical framework. The chapter calculates a ratio of offshore fields out of the total number of oilfields in the country, based on Oil and Gas Journal's "Historical Worldwide Oil Field Production Survey". The development of offshore oilfields is associated with higher costs even though technological advancements have significantly shrunk the gap between onshore and offshore in terms of cost differences in the past three decades. The geological conditions is worth noting that data on oilfield characteristics, including upstream cost data, is proprietary to oil producing countries and energy consulting companies.
