ABSTRACT

This chapter deals with the mixed methods research, is an intellectual and practical synthesis based on qualitative and quantitative research. The triangulation evidence method, in classroom research projects helps to increase the credibility, validity, and perhaps generalizability. This alternative perspective takes into account that triangulation results in convergent, inconsistent, and contradictory evidence rendered sensible by the researcher or evaluator. The beauty of mixed methods in classroom research is that this methodological framework helps to generate additional questions regarding to the project. The chapter also gives the example of a project that employed mixed methods, including assessment objectives, study, design, methods, results, conclusions, assessment instrument, and student enrolment. Furthermore, formal assessments are necessary for objective student assessment as accreditation requirements continue to become more stringent for student learning outcomes. This desire was evident in all aspects of the study from student enrolment through student survey results and information obtained during the student debriefing meeting.
