ABSTRACT

In this book we have identified the conceptual underpinnings that contribute to common problems within the criminal justice sector. We have also discussed how these conceptual underpinnings are also the solutions to optimising working environments within this sector. We believe we have succeeded in collating research evidence and best-practice examples of the key issues facing managers and employees working within the global criminal justice community. In Chapter 1 we discussed reasons why external factors of politics, IT, economics, and changes in the types and levels of crime have significantly impacted criminal justice services. Fulfilling the dual demands of modern employment requirements and providing just and fair operational services, all whilst performing on a reduced budget, is one of the greatest challenges our criminal justice services has encountered.
