ABSTRACT

As we have already pointed out, natural curiosity is a good tool to use to engage students with a text. Students may be more interested by a text which is hidden than one which they can see. Exploring texts that disappear or are hidden is like working on an archaeological dig! We can exploit this quirk of human nature to involve students of all ages and abilities in the investigation of texts. ICT gives us a way of making texts instantly invisible and enables us to reveal the text bit by bit. This allows us to focus on aspects of the text such as:

x the period in which it was written x the type of text it seems to be x sentence structure x vocabulary x a combination of these.
