ABSTRACT

One of the skills which students are expected to master as they pass through secondary education is that of note-taking, yet it is rarely taught as a specific skill. Perhaps this is because it is a very difficult thing to teach. On the surface, making a note of what is important and leaving out the rest would seem to be the simplest of tasks. In reality, students find it very hard, frequently collecting far too much information and failing to summarise what they have gleaned.
