ABSTRACT

If hiding words is stimulating, hiding whole texts can be even more so. The technique on which we focus in this section converts any given text into a ‘word wall’ which is not, in this case, merely a wall with words on, but a wall of bricks behind which the words are concealed. The activities afforded by this technique encourage thinking and discussion about language, structure and text types. Again, the use of the IWB allows the whole class to join in with an investigation and can turn a very ordinary study of a text into an engaging puzzle.
