ABSTRACT

There are many specialist pattern-drafting tools on the market, although most are regular drawing and measuring equipment. This chapter lists the tools that are useful for the pattern-drafting process, from taking measurements of your model to drawing up your patterns. Specialist equipment such as a Pattern Master, set square and hip curve are particularly beneficial for the process of producing accurate patterns; as the pattern instructions use metric measurements, metric tools would simplify this process and avoid having to convert the measurements to imperial. Pattern paper comes in various widths, usually on a roll, it can be plain or may be marked with a grid or spot; the paper is strong but relatively thin and should be suitable for tracing. French curve tool for drawing different shaped curves. Protractor tool for measuring angles. Cotton tape use to place around your model's waist and hips while taking measurements.
