ABSTRACT
Policies regarding population will be a major factor in determining China’s future prospects as a nation, including its prospects for development. The starting point and the goal of such policies must be to foster the well-being of the greatest number of people. Policies must aim at a balanced and sustainable development of population, society, and economy. Both formulation of new policies and adjustment of existing policies must conform to the realities of China’s situation.
