ABSTRACT
The dividing lines of the pattern pieces have been drawn and the notes and notches needed to differentiate each piece have been added. Half of the ‘pattern skin’ has been removed from the positive. Whether designer used plastic and tape, fabric, rubber or decided to use the skin intrinsic to the positive sculpt, notice that some if not all the pieces do not want to lie flat. It is crucial that each piece lies flat so that they can be transferred to a flat sheet of foam. An alternative to taping the pieces to paper is laying the pieces directly on the copy machine screen and letting the lid depress the pieces flat. After the paper copy of the skin pieces has been made, designer can ‘true-up’ designers’ patterns. ‘Truing’ means correcting any major discrepancies drawn onto the pattern, straightening wiggly lines, aligning sides that are not even, correcting curves that are irregular.
