ABSTRACT
Many methods used by foam artisans when scaling a pattern. This chapter discusses the three methods are the grid, the copy machine, and the experienced eye. Of the three, the grid and copy machine methods are the most accurate to use. However, with experience and a practiced eye, the foam artisan can achieve the approximate size more quickly by cutting out the need for scaling. Mural painters and scenic artists have used the grid method for years. It entails laying a small grid over the item to be transferred, then laying out a larger grid to the desired scale, and plotting out the corresponding points of the image. If needing extremely large patterns: try to find copy stores that have large copy machines for maps and blueprints. The screens are bigger and these can print giant sheets. This will reduce the cutting and taping that happens sometimes when the patterns need to be pieced together.
