ABSTRACT

The final finishing steps are often the most critical when bringing a character, an object, or anything that is custom made to life. Long wisps and tufts of fur, plastic, fabric, or feathers are all great materials to help add depth when finalizing. Along with the lush look of the additional textures, the object’s movement can also be enhanced subtly. The technique of hand tying fibers into fabric net is used for making latch-hook rugs and ventilated hand-tied wigs. With the exception of the scale and the kinds of materials used, both techniques are basically the same. The technique uses a tiny slip knot tied through the foundation fabric. Adding painted details is a very good way of enhancing color and depth on a newly built object. Airbrushing and hand painting with brushes are good ways of tinting and shading.
