ABSTRACT
This chapter gives a brief overview of safety awareness. There is so much information available to the public about safe practices that many entire books have been dedicated to this subject and rightly so. The term ‘safe’ when discussing effects of toxins and using tools could perhaps are defined as ‘causing no physical harm or damage’. Toxins are perhaps the most insidious because these often go unnoticed and can enter the human body through skin, eyes, mouth, and nose. However, equally as dangerous are mishandling tools and not wearing standard safety gear. Along with information about what specific chemicals or ingredients you are being exposed to, the Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) and Safety Data Sheet (SDS) can be handy tools for determining what safety equipment will be needed. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) are in the process of changing the MSDS to the Global Harmonized System (GHS) for its hazard communication standard.
