ABSTRACT

Candidates for licensure should know that it is strategically wise to capitalize on personal strengths, rather than personal weaknesses, to optimize test performance. Personal strengths can serve to identify proven study strategies, provide a foundation for new learning, highlight realistic learning approaches, and illuminate keys to a winning performance. Too many people waste time and energy by relearning what they already know and using ineffective strategies. Some students study effectively at certain times and places but ineffectively at other times and places. It is important to learn to identify times and places that are effective for studying. This chapter provides self-assessment exercises that are designed to help candidates for licensure conduct of their personal inventories and to identify the qualities, attributes, and values that helped in achieving goals and advancing professional careers. Students who establish and maintain regular periods of uninterrupted study can amass considerable information.
