ABSTRACT

Carefully designed study strategies can help to realize the student's full potential. Study skills are of key importance to candidates for the Examination for Professional Practice in Psychology. Certainly, most candidates already possess a certain sophistication in the matter of academic study, and this sensibility is amply demonstrated by the obtainment of a doctoral degree. An advanced degree, however, is insufficient to secure licensure. Candidates also need to connect and assimilate seemingly disparate areas of psychological knowledge. One of the most challenging components to licensure involves the diverse ways different facets of knowledge are pieced together in the examination. Summarizing offers an excellent opportunity to review, process, and overlearn information. It should be done at the end of each session and again weekly. Licensure candidates should understand that they are likely to experience feelings of general complacency from time to time. This chapter explores ten different study strategies that can be used as focal points for learning.
