ABSTRACT

This chapter presents an activity for tracking of positive and problematic behaviors for children. Tracking problematic behaviors and events that precede them allows the clinician to discover the antecedents and consequences of the child's negative behavior. Tracking positive behaviors will allow the child and parents to notice the child's successes and give the child a feeling of empowerment in overcoming the problematic behavior. The Champion Pack is a fanny pack a child carries with him or her to keep track of his or her successes. The pack includes a pad of paper, a pencil, and stickers. Two behavior modification principles are at work when children are punished or rewarded for behavior: positive reinforcement and punishment. This activity also may not be appropriate for children who are too young to record successes in winning the game.
