ABSTRACT

The main objective of this activity is to disrupt marital or family patterns of interaction that are negatively affecting the children, and to promote more intimate family relationships. As children sculpt their family they are able to express their anxieties and fears, and parents are able to see things from their children's perspectives. This is often a powerful catalyst for change by reducing defensiveness and blame and promoting more honest and intimate communication. Old patterns are less likely to occur in the future, since the rules and affect attached to them have changed. This can move the family toward common goals, where each person takes responsibility for his or her own behavior to bring about change.
