ABSTRACT

How is it that more people do not become psychotic? Our brains are sensitive instruments and the process of building up an inner representational world includes many misperceptions and distortions, which may collide when confronting reality. We allow ourselves to be influenced by drugs, alcohol or rituals that disturb our awareness and identity. Yet after some hours we are back to our old selves with an intact ego apparatus. Our perceptions and interpretations of reality again allow us to find a place from which to function and communicate with the surrounding world.
