ABSTRACT

There is currently a great deal of interest tn alternative medicine and mind-body phenomena. In this chapter, I discuss the integration of coordinating and aligning the mental (mind) with the physical (body) processes in order to help individuals begin to bridge the same processes with their close intimates. When a therapist can track the subtle emerging sensations in the individual and collective bodies that are interacting closely with one another, one can see that there is a "relational body" that encompasses and transcends the sum total of the intimates. In fact, one can observe a mind-body dance between close relationships with complementarity and symmetrical patterns of breathing and rate of heartbeat. As partners or family members become deeply connected, their bodily processes also become attuned to one another. I am calling integrating the healing and transforming of relationship processes "Mind-Body Systems Therapy."
