ABSTRACT

This volume has evolved into a unique collection of studies addressing both child custody decisions and the resultant outcomes for the children and their families. The majority of literature in the field of divorce and remarriage, published both in this book and elsewhere, has focused tradi tionally on aspects of personal divorce adjustment during and after the divorce. Here, the reader can begin to see the inextricable interactions between the legal and legislative systems and the resultant outcome pat terns and dilemmas for families. For those of us who have worked many years with both systems, this volume only begins to touch the surface of these inherent struggles and the intrinsic flaws that continue to exist. However, it is hoped that these studies will focus and contribute to further ongoing research and clinical efforts.
