ABSTRACT

Goals of obtaining food, shelter, and secure territory and to fulfill roles toward the ends occupy much everyday effort. In assertiveness, life is preserved by achieving essential goals. The appraisal is that in order to survive, essential goals must be achieved. The survival calculus may prioritize and organize multiple and complex goals, roles, and boundaries. Pursuit of goals is accompanied by alertness, anticipation, concentration, ready absorption of new information, and mustering of past learning. Different goals require different social groups. Individuals have developmental and role goals. Families work toward common shelter, sharing food, warmth, and maturation goals. Work and combat occur in social groups. National aims may involve securing territories and resources. The hunting and combat group templates are recognizable in different assertiveness settings. Natural disasters may be symbolized as big animals one needs to combat. Emergency teams often resemble hunting and combat teams.
