ABSTRACT
As we saw in Chapter 5, the most commonly used classificatory system or taxonomy for psychiatric diagnosis is the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-III-R). It describes a substantial number of different forms of mental disorder or psychopathology, and it would clearly be impossible to do justice to them all in a single chapter. Accordingly, our coverage will be selective, and will focus on discussing a range of different mental disorders.
