ABSTRACT

Individual differences and imagery have been especially emphasized in psychological and biographical analyses of creative geniuses in virtually all domains of arts and sciences. As in psychometric studies of creativity, the emphasis reflects the “giftedness” interpretation of exceptional achievers, which motivates the search for characteristics that set them apart. Here we focus instead on domain-specific experiential factors and modes of thought that come together in different ways in creative individuals in various fields. Imagery remains important in the analyses but verbal processes and dual coding take on more prominent roles than in the traditional literature.
