ABSTRACT

One thing that people cannot avoid is other people. Getting along with people, being able to talk and listen to them and laugh and cry with them is an essential part of living. Research has repeatedly highlighted the importance of even one close, confiding relationship as a buffer against depression and other psychological problems. In other words, it is the quality of relationships, rather than the quantity, that really counts. So, what is “relating” all about? When, where, why, and how can it go wrong?
