ABSTRACT

Everyone has felt “down,” “fed up,” or “blue” at some time or another. We have all experienced times when we have had no great appetite for anything, when we did not want to bother going out or dressing up, when we had no “get up and go.” In fact, such mild feelings of depression are so common as to suggest that if you have never felt low, then there is something wrong! One reason for the commonness of such feelings is the nature of life itself. We all get put down and let down from time to time. We all experience disappointments and losses; relationships and friendships break up, loved ones die or move away, possessions and jobs are sometimes unexpectedly taken from us. Sometimes, a number of circumstances combine to create a depressing overall life situation.
