ABSTRACT

A crowd of mostly middle-age women gathered inside a makeshift television studio to witness the taping of a television special, “The Beauty-Brain Connection.” Although this particular taping was for public broadcasting (PBS) television, the speaker that day was Dr. Nicholas Perricone, author of two bestsellers, The Wrinkle Cure and The Perricone Prescription. He is one of several dermatologists who are becoming celebrities by selling their own line of antiwrinkle creams and nutritional supplements through various types of media. In 2002 his product sales reached $42 million, an increase from $11 million the previous year.
