ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses three aspects of organization: structure, processes and culture. Organization is another key enabler in multinational strategic management. The organizational enabling environment that is required for fostering, the chapter discusses such a controlled entrepreneurial culture. The concept of organizations has changed substantially, as companies have come to emphasize flexible, collaborative structures. Management structure was reordered through development of networks or groups of employees performing similar work but located countries apart. Some type of organization structure appropriate for specific company and competitive market involved is obviously needed. The former organization structure had made sense when bulk of Alcatel's business came from European state-owned firms, such as France Telecom. However, as the European phone monopolies were privatized and challenged by new competitors, they began demanding lower prices and competitive bidding. The chapter explores the impact of organization culture on successful multinational strategic management. It discusses cultural changes from different perspective were important to British Petroleum's (BP) revival during early 1990s.
