ABSTRACT

'Evaluation' is a process of collecting and communicating information and evidence for the purpose of informing judgment and ascribing value to a particular programme. School evaluation differs from other kinds of educational evaluation in that it focuses upon how teachers and students interact over a particular curriculum or syllabus at one school site. School evaluations also focus on the needs and interests of the constituent groups involved in the school community. The initiatives for embarking upon school evaluations can come from various quarters such as internally from within the school community or externally. These initiatives can be: internal initiatives and external initiatives. The Guidelines for Review and Internal Development in Schools (GRIDS) model was the result of a project initiated by the Schools Council and developed collaboratively with fifteen primary schools in five LEAs. The GRIDS model provides a valuable do-it-yourself kit for schools wanting to embark upon self-evaluation.
