American Poverty Policy from the 1930s to 2004

At the beginning of the 1960s, before the inauguration of the War on Poverty during the Johnson administration, federal programs to reduce poverty were based on social and economic issues that attended the national recovery from the Great Depression and the effects of World War II. Most, if not all, of the programs in place in the early 1960s were holdovers from the 1930s and 1940s.
