ABSTRACT

One of the keys to being a successful grandparent is finding ways to be helpful and supportive that are appropriate for one's grandchildren's ages, their parent's needs, and the particular stages in their lives. It may sound simple, but when one tries to describe this on paper it can seem enormously complicated. One of the most important things to remember during this period is that there is no single correct way to love a baby. Babies are individuals and need different amounts and kinds of affection. Parents, too, have different ways of expressing their affection. Some are lavish with physical demonstrations of their feelings; others are less demonstrative. Toilet training is another of those areas that can drive parents nuts. Unfortunately, there always seem to be good reasons for parents to begin toilet training that have nothing to do with the child.
