ABSTRACT

Holidays offer a unique opportunity to pass down family traditions and share special moments. Renting a room in a nearby hotel or motel may cost some money, but it also provides somewhere to go to rest, have a quiet cup of coffee, and escape whenever everyone needs a time-out. Nothing can get a visit off on the wrong foot as quickly as unrealistic expectations. The more people involved, the more likely things are to get complicated. Children often get sick when traveling. Planes arrive late, and snow and rain usually fall when it is least convenient. Traveling with children means striking a fine balance between the new and the familiar. Chances are, especially with younger children, that they will be excited enough at the beginning. Going out to eat with the whole family can also be fun if it is done intelligently.
