ABSTRACT

Some of the people working in transpersonal psychology have made important contributions to experiential education. Humanistic education is uncomfortable too, but it is immensely hopeful, and that little spark can give comfort to a teacher in world. It seems clear that humanistic education does do justice to feminine as well as masculine ways of processing information. This is the whole thing about the humanistic approach to education - it puts things together, rather than leaving things out. One thing which comes out very easily in this approach is that the personal experience of the student really matters. One of the lines from self to society runs through schools, colleges and other educational institutions where real learning does or does not take place. Any form of education which adopted an authoritarian approach, laying great stress on hierarchy and formal roles, would actually make genuine political democracy in adult life either impossible or very difficult.
