ABSTRACT

Imagine the post arrives one morning and among the letters is an official-looking one; you open it and read that you have been selected for jury service. Four weeks later you find yourself in court after having listened to a case where the prosecution alleged burglary. The jury, of which you are a member, has just retired to consider making a verdict. You are with 11 other people whom you have not met before. The jury has to make an important decision that may have a profound affect upon a person’s life. You have to make up your own mind and make an individual decision; the jury has to make a collective decision which should also be unanimous.
