ABSTRACT

Rose was thirty-two when she was referred by Relate. She had been advised to seek help from them by her general practitioner after repeated visits to him for complaints of a gynaecological nature, for which a number of investigations were carried out but did not reveal any organic problems. Eventually, Rose plucked up courage and told her GP that she very much wanted to resume her sexual relationship with her husband, which had gradually declined after the birth of their three-year-old daughter, but she simply had no desire for it. Rose did not, however, disclose to her GP that she had been sexually abused as a child, and was promptly advised to seek help from Relate, who provide sexual and marital therapy.
