ABSTRACT

Frustration and stress produced by the factors are compounded by competition and conflict. Both can have either positive or negative impact on group process. When people are brought together to work in a group they bring with them different agendas, moods, personalities, and cultural backgrounds. Friction between individuals and groups, and their attendant frustrations or stresses, have both good and bad consequences. Stress-related tension usually is accompanied by increased concentration and energy expenditure. In addition to task performance, perceptual, and behavior problems, tension or stress created by pressure can help produce a number of health problems. The behavior of groups in conflict or competition with other groups follows a general pattern similar to the one observable among frustrated and/or competing individuals. In the case of constructive conflict one or both parties operate from an assumption that mutual benefits will arise from such a relationship, and they cooperate with each other between arguments.
