ABSTRACT
The focus for this study is Connecticut and the city of Hartford particularly. In exploring different themes and experiences of the elderly I have necessarily adjusted my lens geographically, either broadening or narrowing the vista, according to the evidence available. Thus in examining some topics I draw evidence from all over Connecticut, and in other cases the county of Hartford forms the geographical limit. For the most part, however, the city of Hartford and the aged living there are the subject of this inquiry.
