ABSTRACT
In the 1950s, the newspaper accounts celebrated Sun-Hope as an impressive stable family community. This image counters the intense open-air 24-hour drug trade, crimes and homicides of the 1980s. The interplay of factors which gave rise to Sun-Hope’s emergence and transformation will be examined.
