ABSTRACT
This chapter begins with a brief review of the literature discussing the dimensions of family homelessness and the characteristics of homeless families. It is intended to provide a background for understanding the everyday lives of the children and families participating in this study. Where appropriate, I have noted topics which have direct relevance to
this study; those will be further explored in the remaining chapters of the book.
