ABSTRACT

The findings of this study are largely informed by the voices of African students in China. However, an African perspective of Sino-African relations is not the initial point of entry but rather the other way around. As Ogunsanwo (1974:1) explains, Sino-African relations have largely resulted from the diplomatic initiatives of the People’s Republic of China rather than those of African nations. This immediately begs a number of questions. Why is China interested in Africa? How does Africa fit into China’s image of the world?
