ABSTRACT

The experience of mourning losses in people life is more common than one often stop to realize. When people hear the word grief, they tend to most readily associate this word with death; however, they should note the different types of loss that are a basic part of living. David Peretz suggested that loss be grouped into four major catagories: the loss of a person, the loss of some aspect of self, the loss of external objects, and developmental losses. The death of someone loved is often the most intense form of relationship loss. The death of someone loved is often the most intense form of relationship loss. Mitchell and Anderson described the loss of relationship when they wrote the following: "Relationship loss is the ending of opportunities to relate oneself to, talk with, share experiences with, make love to, touch, settle issues with, fight with, and otherwise be in the emotional and/or physical presence of a particular other human being".
