ABSTRACT

A total of 722 NCCs returned surveys from which usable data could be obtained, representing a return rate of approximately 48%. Approximately 30% of the respondents were male and 70% were female. Approximately 63% of the respondents had a master's degree, 9% had completed an education specialist degree, and 22% had a doctorate; 6% did indicate their highest degree held. Only 19% of the respondents indicated holding a certification in addition to being an NCC, with the most common certification being a Certified Rehabilitation Counselor. Because all respondents were NCCs, they were considered professional counselors. Since a disproportionate distribution of respondents existed across some of the demographic characteristic categories, and to simplify these secondary analyses, the types of demographic information obtained were collapsed into dichotomies. The indicated the following about the respondents: 522 had entry-level and 159 had doctoral degrees and 355 were in educational and 268 in job settings.
