ABSTRACT
So far in the previous chapters we have traversed thousands of years in the history of the Chinese language and culture. It certainly feels like a long journey. Finally we are on the doorstep of modernity. In this chapter we will discuss how Modern Standard Chinese was created, what linguisƟc features it has and how it is related to the earlier stages of the language.
