Capitalism as religion, religion as capitalism book
Insofar as contemporary politics is a politics of consensus, which has its origin in the apparatus of glory, it is worth recalling that what is glorified in a neo-liberal world is first and foremost capitalism itself. Thus today people can imagine the end of the world but not that of capitalism (see Žižek 2009: 78). But why has capitalism become so powerful? One possible, and convincing, answer addresses the essential link between capitalism and religion. In our society, capitalism has become a religion and religion has become capitalism. This implies that today we should look for religion not in theological categories but in capitalism. To discuss this, we start, again, from oikonomia.
