ABSTRACT

This introduction presents an overview of key concepts discussed in the subsequent chapters of this book. The book explains the importance of quiet, rhythmical times with young children and finding space, supported by a well-upholstered, comfy chair, to feed infants with love and care. The aim of the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) framework is to help young children achieve the five Every Child Matters outcomes by offering daily opportunities for the best possible start in life and encouraging effective practice aimed at supporting the five outcomes: staying safe; being healthy; enjoying and achieving; making a positive contribution; achieving economic well-being. It support practitioners and students in the area that focuses on personal, social and emotional development at the same time as emphasizing it is also the background against which learning takes place. The book encourages the wisdom of individual practitioners and teams of staff committed to enhancing the early life chances of infants and young children.
