ABSTRACT

The results of Experiments 7 and 8 pointed to two further lines of research. The first concerned assistance at presentation. Since recall cues alone were not effective in increasing amount recalled, a closer investigation of the nature of subjects’ coding processes at presentation seemed appropriate. For efficient coding at presentation is a necessary condition for the reduction of information load. Experiments 9 and 10 (1) had this objective. Experiment 9 was designed to investigate the relative effects of cueing and grouping (see p. 48).
