ABSTRACT

This introduction presents an overview of key concepts discussed in subsequent chapters of this book. The book provides additional information on how the Chief Learning Officer (CLO) has evolved in the last ten years. By appointing the CLO, the chief executive officer (CEO) communicates to both internal and external audiences that the organization is making a long-term investment in organizational learning. The dramatic change of technology and the implementation of technology-based learning makes the case to rename the job to chief learning and technology officer. This is actually emerging in some organizations, particularly where there is a focus on comprehensive use of mobile learning, e-learning, and blended learning. The book discusses the role which could be expanded to chief talent officer to recognize that not only is the role in developing, but sometimes in acquiring, motivating, rewarding, and retaining talent in the process.
