ABSTRACT

This introduction presents an overview of key concepts discussed in the subsequent chapters of this book. The book focuses on successful the scope of youth and family services (YFS). Accordingly, there are three pillars of positive deviance that underscore YFS. It also examines an opportunity to discover your fingerprint, the uniqueness you have to connect with others, positively influence change, and make the world better. The book also explains the following four sections: Lessons from the Front Lines, Personal Philosophy, and Activating Your Positive Deviance, and Pillars of Positive Deviance. YFS can be voluntary or involuntary with varying eligibility requirements. YFS are provided in offices, homes, residential programs, schools, corrections facilities, hospitals, drop-in centers, and other settings that serve youth and families. Many organizations are multifaceted, offering a combination of the aforementioned services. The role of the youth care worker (YCW) may also be referred to as resident counselors, youth counselors, psychiatric technicians, caseworkers, case managers, and house parents or managers.
