ABSTRACT

In the urban neighbourhood of Primero de Junio, daily activities start early. From 5 a.m. women, old and young, dogs and some kids gather around the public water tap, with buckets, water containers, and wheelbarrows. The tap, la pileta, is a focal point and essential part of the neighbourhood landscape. As in other recent urbanizations, in Primero de Junio, the water flow ends in collective and public water taps, where settlers, vecinos, fetch the water, and from here carry it to their homes.
