ABSTRACT

The Sahelian landscapes in Northern Burkina Faso consist mainly of two land use types: cultivated fields that provide food for the population, and grazing areas, which generate fodder for the livestock. Other land use types such as forested land and urban areas are not common in this area where people reside in small huts that are scattered throughout the landscape. This specific landscape of fields and pastures is most often associated with droughts and harsh conditions for humans and livestock.
